Feel the (Marmite) love

Our Thoughts    Rich, 29 March 2010

Marmite Hate Party poster

We’re rather enjoying the build up to the 2010 general election. On the one hand, the media are talking up ‘the digital election‘, we’re seeing some lovely grass-roots political satire and we have, in Facebook and Twitter, a couple of social media environments that didn’t even exist last time around. On the other hand, it’s amusing to sit back and watch as the main political parties mess it up.

So it’s great to see Marmite continue their love it/hate it strategy by developing a spoof election between two political parties (the Love Party and the Hate Party). There’s a news channel so that we can follow the campaigns, facebook pages for each party, and they’re aiming to get us to vote for one party or the other, with some interesting pledges in place should either party win (special edition product, ‘shrines’ etc etc).

In the context of budget cuts, expenses scandals, and limited growth forecasts in politics proper, this campaign offers a little escapism and promises to be a whole lot more fun than the real thing.

Oh and for the record, I’m with the Love Party.
